Abstract

The need of safer surfactant molecules keep increasing. Some surfactants are showing an adverse impact on the environment and specifically, on the marine ecosystem and hence, the need for safer granules for sustainable biota is mandatory. Biodegradable surfactants can slow down the risk of environmental damage due to their high rate of degradation. Amino acid-based surfactants are an exclusive type of bio-surfactants. They are promising to improve the safety profile for the environment and aquatic life. They are formed by renewable sources. Eco-friendly aspects of amino acid based surfactants make them to be a compound for a greener life on earth and minimal adverse effect on the aquatic ecosystem.

This overview illustrates types, synthesis, properties, and applications of amino acid-based surfactants in agricultural, detergent, cosmetic, drug delivery agent, gene therapy ingredients and their interaction with other biomolecules. This overview provides a comprehensive understanding of the existing knowledge of amino acid-based surfactants.

Keywords:
